Kissing the Witch

I made this cool musical instrument from a gourd we grew in the garden last year. It's a jug (as in jugband).

The gourd is decorated with pyrography to look like a Witch (Halloween hag type Witch not a real one) and you play it by blowing into her right nostril.

There are also rocks in the gourd so it can be shaken for a percussive sound as well.

Here's a new mix of Your Man is Dead using the new gourd jug both as a jug and as a percussion instrument:

Organized Crime in NC (lottery)

The NC state house voted yesterday, 61-59, to hand the state over to organized crime... in other words they approved the lottery.

Now we can only hope that more responsible folks in the Senate will vote the other way, 'cause we know crime boss wannabe Mike Easley will sign it if it gets to him.

The following members of the house voted for this criminal legistation that will take food out of poor kids' mouths and destroy public education:

Adams, Alexander, Allen, B., Allen, L., Allred, Bell, Black, Bordsen, Carney, Church, Coates, Cole, Coleman, Crawford, Culpepper, Cunningham, Daughtridge, Dickson, Earle, England, Faison, Farmer-Butterfield, Fisher, Gibson, Glazier, Goforth, Goodwin, Grady, Hackney, Haire, Harrell, Hill, Holliman, Hunter, Jeffus, Jones, Jones, Ed, Justice, LaRoque, Lucas, McAllister, McLawhorn, Michaux, Owens, Parmon, Ross, Saunders, Sherrill, Stiller, Sutton, Tolson, Tucker, Underhill, Wainwright, Warren, Wilkins, Williams, Womble, Wray, Wright, Yongue

If one of these idiots represents you, please vote against him/her in 2006.

I will be voting against my representative, Joe Hackney, even if his opponent is a yeller dog.

Your Man is Dead

Here's a new recording of Your Man Is Dead.

This was played on Cumbus (sort of a 6 string Turkish deep dish banjo) and Tic Tac box kazoo. If you listen carefully at the start of the kazoo solo, you can hear (bassett hound) Otis Lowe singing along. He actually sang a pretty good counterpoint, but he wasn't close enough to the mic to get most of it on the recording.

New Bridge

I just made a new bridge for the goblin guitar shown above. The bridge is designed to allow installation of a pickup in the bridge itself.

If you'd like to see how this went together, click here.
